Completion of Temelin power plant

Basic Information
The company ČEZ a.s. announced the tender for the supplier of the 3rd and 4th units of the Temelín nuclear power plant in 2011. This is the largest project in the history of the Czech Republic. One of the candidates is the consortium consisting of Westinghouse Electric Company LLC and Westinghouse Electric Czech Republic, with the joint stock company Metrostav as the exclusive partner for the complete supply of the civil part and site facilities. Turbine equipment would be supplied by Toshiba.

Westinghouse is offering its AP1000 reactor in the tender. The AP1000 is a generation III+ standardized pressurized water reactor with passive safety technology, with another advantage being its modular construction method. There are eight such reactors currently under construction in China and in the United States. The design has been licensed by U.S. nuclear authorities, has preliminary approval from the British authorities, and complies with the requirements of European utility companies (EUR).

The AP1000 offers the combination of three substantial benefits: unrivaled safety, an opportunity for Czech industry, and the greatest certainty that the completion of the project will go according to schedule. Construction was originally planned to take place between 2016 and 2024.
